What better to celebrate National Rum Day than with a creation by the people who know rum best – the Cubans!
If you ever find yourself in Cuba’s capital, be sure to stop into El Floridita, one of the most historic watering holes in Old Havana. It is (most likely) the only place one can enjoy a cocktail with the Nobel Prize winning, American novelist, Ernest Hemingway…
How? It was a favourite haunt of his, so they bronzed him forever leaning on the bar, as a life-sized statue.
His namesake drink, was one of the variations on a classic daiquiri that he enjoyed the most – the addition of citrus juices help to balance out the excess sweetness found in most daiquiris. *For the original version, substitute triple sec with maraschino liqueur.
